Tutorials, tips and techniques for your Powertex art and craft
Essentially a mixed media artist I discovered the Powertex range of products about seven years ago and I haven't looked back since.
The versatility of the range and the fact that all ages and abilities can create their own unique piece of art are just some of the reasons that in March 2014 we became the distributors of the products in the UK.
We are now enjoying travelling around the country introducing everyone to this amazing range of products and taking on a network of tutors who will have the products available and run workshops in their local area. Watch out for us in a town near you!
Have you got what it takes to run your own art and craft business? We have opportunities as tutors and stockists of Powertex products and running workshops around the country.
When we were discussing launching our subscription boxes we loved the idea but what were we going to include?
We came up with loads of different ideas – and abandoned most of them! We settled on the fact that if we were receiving the box we would love them to have a theme but not a set project, we wanted you to be free to create whatever you felt inspired to and at the same time build a collection of products to try, we also wanted it to be suitable for all abilities.
That sounds easy enough you may think but the trouble is I love so many things, once I have a theme I could go on forever!
How would we inspire you?
We will be including a short verse on the contents page which is intended to set your imagination free, most of these have been written by one of the HQ team Claire Ivins. We hope that you are will share your projects with us using #secretartbox and #powertex on FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM, we love to see your makes!
Each month some of our design team will also be creating projects using items from the box.

I spoke about these in my personal blog but realised that not all of you follow that and I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out!
Stock is getting low so don’t think about it for too long!
As the name implies the contents will be a secret, who doesn’t love a secret?
I’m not very good at keeping secrets but I would be in big trouble if I gave this one away! However, I can tell you that here will be things like Powertex, pigments, paints, powders, MDF, metal embellishments and so much more. Some of the products will be exclusive to your The Secret Art Box and others will be seen here first items.
Every piece has been handpicked because I think I would like to use it with my Powertex projects and members of our design team will also have them so there will be blogs about how they have used them over on The Powertex UK BLOG
The last blog Sam shared with us was about her Garden Party experience. (We still have a few spaces left for next years Garden party, it’s an event not to be missed!) Now Sam is sharing her thoughts on her tutor training at Powertex UK HQ with Creative Director Tracey Evans. Read on to find out more. If you feel inspired to become a Powertex tutor for your area please send an email to email@example.com. Fancy learning from a tutor? Find your nearest in the new tutor directory at Powertex UK.
So guess where I’ve been the last couple of days? Yes, on my Powertex tutor training course, along with three other lovely ladies all set to become tutors for their designated areas.
First of all we played with the ivory Powertex.
The mdf shape that I was given was an owl and there was a huge box of embellies to choose from, so as you can see I went off piste with mine (what’s new there then!) and went down the skull, cog and Halloween route.
We then started working on the next piece.
This was the next piece, either an angel or a fairy, I chose an angel and the others made fairies.
Here at the end of day one are my three pieces all ready for their colour tomorrow.
Back again for day two and today the sun was shining.
We played with different colouring and layering techniques firstly on the bottle.
Everyone is on a roll now.
Michele popped down to see how we were all doing.
I went for the blue for my angel.
This is a photo of the projects I made taken outside this morning in my garden – love them all.
This is a snippet of my certificate, so it’s now official!!
And my absolute special favourite is my fabulous apron which I shall wear with pride – thank you sooooo much.
Can’t wait to also share my other news with you, but that will have to wait until nearer the end of the year!!
In light of Mental Health Awareness Day on 10thOctober this week, Artist and Creative Director at Powertex UK, Tracey Evans shares her take on crafting for mental health wellness.
Traceys artwork intrinsically links nature and the environment with mental health and wellbeing. Whilst developing as an artist, Tracey further explored her interest in mental health and wellbeing by studying Neuro-linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy with Richard Bandler and Paul McKenna. She went on to practice both NLP and hypnotherapy and it was during this period that she discovered the benefits of crafting for mental health. Powertex in particular can offer benefits to people at all levels and Tracey herself credits her sanity (along with many others!) directly to Powertex.
Tracey does not offer sessions as a private therapist; instead she chooses to teach aspiring crafters the art of Powertex and trains them to become Certified Tutors. For the first time, Tracey is opening her home-based studio to members of the public for one day workshops as part of the Powertex Portfolio Workshop series. See the website for more details.
It is within these classes that people discover the benefits for themselves, they are taken on a therapeutic journey with Tracey at the helm, guiding them on a voyage of artistic discovery and mental wellbeing that they are then excited to pass on to others. A growing network of Powertex tutors can be found all over the UK, helping people to discover the wonderful world of Powertex with a huge variety of fun and interesting workshops. If you haven’t discovered Powertex yet, you are in for a real treat. It is not often that something totally unique comes along that immediately captures your imagination and inspires you to create without limits.
We at Powertex have seen many people sharing their stories about mental health issues, past and present, this week and we are all proud and grateful for the part that Powertex plays in the everyday lives of so many of us. We will continue to work hard to spread the message of mental health awareness, without shame or embarrassment, and in turn promote the benefits of art, crafting and creativity for wellbeing.
And what could be better for helping to maintain your mental health than getting down and dirty with some Powertex?!
New moulding tools to go with the increased range of stencils and moulds – check out the new mould additions in the Katy Sue range which include cherubs, mermaids and unicorns or if you prefer something a bit more gothic, there’s plenty of steam-punk and halloween-inspired skulls in the Artyco range. You’ll also find some popular Air Drying Clay in the moulds section which works well with delicate patterns and Powertex.
Our popular MDF Name Plate is newly available in two separate sizes, Small or Large, so you can choose the best one for your project.

Last week I was re-decorating a room in my house after we’d suffered a leak and as I was painting the wall, some plaster and brick-work started to crumble. The dust dropped on to my paint brush and I blithely carried on whilst thinking “ooh, what lovely texture!”. Hmmm, not sure that ‘texture’ is what we are after on freshly painted walls but I think it’s a sign that I have Powertex on the brain 24/7. Am I going mad or does anyone elses mind work like this?
*Not a picture of my wall but i think it would look great!
So apart from bringing Powertex into all the aspects of your home, how else can you get to ‘play’ with Powertex?
Firstly, we recommend that you find a Certified Powertex Tutor near you and look at the workshops they have running. There’s all sorts out there and if you don’t see what you’re after, tell them what you want, they’re quite receptive to ideas! You can find tutors on the Powertex Website Directory, see them chatting in the Powertex Studio group on Facebook or check out our Workshop Wednesday posts on Facebook every week for a fresh update.
Newly launched this year are Powertex Portfolio Workshops which are designed to showcase the very best talent that our Tutors have to offer. These Portfolio Workshops will be limited in number and there is a strict application process for tutors to follow before they are accepted on to the programme. Each one will be an enhanced, immersive, full day experience for you in which you will come away with a beautiful, high-end quality, artistic project after an unforgettable day. You can book the Portfolio Workshops directly through the Powertex website.
Your local craft store or Hobbycraft may have classes or demonstrations on, check them out and don’t forget to support local where you can.
Exhibitions – Powertex are at the NEC for the Creative Craft Show this November 1st – 4th.
Get your friends over for a craft morning, don’t forget the cake!
TFind Powertex online; there’s also new videos going on the Powertex UK Youtube channel soon, join in with the fun on Powertex Addicts and the Powertex Studio on Facebook and don’t forget to follow Powertex on Instagram and Pinterest for lots of inspiration.
And finally, plan ahead for an excellent year of Powertex Events in 2019, we’ll keep you posted on these.
In the meantime, the ‘texture’ looks pretty good on my walls, I might dry-brush it next!
It’s my sons nursery graduation today, they’re holding a picnic to celebrate and I’m trying not to be too emotional or cliché about how quickly the past four years have flown by. I’ve bought a dress for the ceremony, it’s got dinosaurs on it.
With the big step-up from nursery comes a rather large life-change for everyone in our family; school hours and term-time. Nurseries are open 7am-6pm5 days a week, all year round and usually only close for Christmas and New Years Day which means I and many other families are then able to continue to go to work more or less without too many restrictions on their standard working pattern (scary nursery fees aside). That drastically changes with schools.
Suddenly we need to find a new work/ life balance. It seems that there are lots of options out there but only if your employer agrees, the reality is that companies are not always willing or able to operate on terms as flexible as you need.
So, what are the alternatives? Instead of trying to force your needs to fit into an employers business, why not take the wheel of the ship yourself and try some form of self-employment? I must point out at this point that this is NOT an MLM opportunity, you will not need to recruit your friends and family, just enjoy teaching others to use this fabulous range of products!
If you have an interest in arts and crafts (we’re not looking for the next Picasso, just a genuine enthusiasm), you may wish to consider becoming a Certified Powertex Tutor. Powertex UK are currently offering people the opportunity to train as Tutors on a two-day Business Start-Up and Fabric Sculpting with Powertex course.
You will be able to deliver quality workshops once this is completed and the course will cover the business side of everything to ensure you have a full and thorough knowledge of this medium, including working with the different colours. You will make several projects to take home and you get to keep everything you make.
You receive lots of tips and advice about how to get started and you get plenty of ideas for ongoing workshops so you are ready to start as soon as you complete the two-day course.
You can run as many or as few workshops as you choose and it entirely depends on your commitments and current needs. There are opportunities to grow your business further if you wish to do so. This is a very exciting opportunity for anyone who wishes to start or extend their own business so if you are finding yourself at a crucial stage in life with some big decisions to make, please do consider Powertex!
